Cesspool Pumping: Some Tips for New Homeowners
There are a lot of factors to consider when looking for a home. In order to make an informed decision, you need to consider the many features of a house. Do you have any thoughts about buying a home that comes with a septic tank? The first thing that many new homeowners are concerned about is the location name in East Northport, particularly.
There is a lot of importance to how waste is managed in a home, and that is why it is so crucial to consider its cesspool sewer when planning a home. Here are some answers to some of the most common questions that you might have if you are contemplating purchasing a house with a septic system.
Are Septic Systems Common?
There is a good chance that your home has a septic system. The United States has about one out of every five properties equipped with a cesspool. It is a misconception that septic systems are only found on rural properties in rural areas, but the fact is that they are found on properties all over the country.
As a matter of fact, East Northport and NY cesspools are pretty standard in terms of their names. Many suburban and urban areas have septic systems that are used to treat waste.
Septic Systems: A Septic Service Overview
The operation of a septic system is often unknown to most people. In a septic system, the waste is initially discharged from the top. Floatable materials float to the top of the tank, while solid waste settles at the bottom.
A cesspool maintenance professional will perform routine cesspool pumping after the waste is contained in the tank.
Liquid wastewater is found in the next layer. A buried cesspool in the yard receives the waste from the tank. Soil is then dispersed with the wastewater. Contaminants will be removed by the soil, but beneficial bacteria will be allowed to flourish.
Is the Home’s Drinking Water System Related to the Septic System?
Many new homeowners ask this question at some point in their home buying process. There is no doubt in my mind that the answer is no. In many cases, properties with a private well will also have septic tanks, however, the septic system will be completely separate from the private well.
In order to prevent any contamination, the purpose of a septic tank is not to make wastewater potable, but to dispose of it in a way that avoids contamination of any kind.
What Makes Each Septic System Different?
There is usually a lot of variance between the size of septic tanks as they differ from one another. Moreover, the size of the drainfield is also one of the most important factors to consider. In order to handle the amount of waste generated by a family, the drain field around the septic tank must be large enough to accommodate it.
It is therefore important that the size of the septic tank you choose should be based on the size of your family. You may want to consider the following factors when deciding whether or not to install a cesspool in East Northport.
Do I Have to Get My Septic Tank Emptied?
If you want to keep your septic tank clean of waste, it is necessary to get your septic tank emptied on a regular basis. On Long Island, there are several cesspool septic tank companies like EZ Cesspool that can take care of routine septic tank pumping for you.

East Northport is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Huntington in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 20,217 at the 2010 census.
Soon after the establishment of a village in the Huntington area, English settlers sought to further expand their territory. On July 30, 1656, land was purchased from Chief Asharoken, head of the Matinecocks Native American tribe, part of which consisted of the land that is today known as East Northport.
Two distinct communities formed in the area now known as East Northport. The more populous settlement known as Larkfield was located on the northern side, near Vernon Valley (now part of Northport). Larkfield originally developed near the location of Genola Cemetery, just north of the modern-day junction of Larkfield Road, Vernon Valley Road, and Laurel Road. A second community located on the southern side was known as Clay Pitts, named for its vast deposits of red clay. This clay which had been used by Native Americans to form pottery was used by the Europeans to form bricks for construction. The land between Larkfield and Clay Pitts was well suited for agriculture, and the region prospered in the late 18th century as a thriving farming community by supplying produce to markets in New York City and Brooklyn.
In 1868 the Long Island Rail Road opened a station within the village of Northport. However, just a few years later the LIRR decided to move the Northport station to a new location in Larkfield to facilitate further railway extension to Port Jefferson. The new railway station located at Larkfield Road and Bellerose Avenue opened on January 13, 1873. Although the station retained the name of Northport, train conductors would refer to it as “East of Northport”, because the station was located east of the railway junction which used to direct trains north to the old station located in the village of Northport. Despite the fact that East Northport is primarily south of Northport, the area became known thereafter as East Northport. The Larkfield Post Office formally changed its name to East Northport in 1910. The East Northport, New York post office building was renamed the Jerome Anthony Ambro, Jr. Post Office Building in 1998.

It is also possible for standing water to form above the tank, along with odors that indicate immediate action is necessary.
How often should a cesspool be pumped out?
Cesspools should be pumped every 2-5 years as a general rule. Frequency will depend on usage, but mostly on the number of people in the household. You can have the tank pumped by a professional who can inspect it and advise you when and how often to do so. To avoid sewage backing up into the house, your cesspool needs to be maintained properly to avoid overload.
How much does it cost to pump a cesspool?
Cesspool pumping costs vary according to the size and condition of the tank. In general, the cost of pumping a regularly maintained cesspool ranges from $200 to 600 dollars.
